In order for everyone to thrive and learn as much as possible, we need some common framework.
When you accept a place at Hallingdal Folkehøgskole, you commit to following the school's rules and contributing to a safe and inclusive community.

🏡 Accommodation and boarding

  • Students generally live in the boarding house throughout the school year – it is an important part of folk high school life.

  • The school allocates rooms and boarding places. Changes are agreed with the boarding house manager.

  • Employees may have access to rooms if necessary for health, safety or in the event of a violation of regulations.

  • All students contribute to the order and cleanliness of rooms and common areas.

  • It must be quiet from 23.00 to 07.00 .

  • Music and sound should not disturb others.

  • It is not permitted to have animals at the boarding school without special agreement.


🚭 Smoking, alcohol and drugs

  • Smoking and use of e-cigarettes are only permitted in designated outdoor areas.

  • It is not permitted to use or store alcohol on school grounds or during school-sponsored activities.

  • Narcotic drugs are strictly prohibited.

  • If substance abuse is suspected, the school can take necessary measures or sanctions.


📅 Absence and attendance

  • To have the school year approved , at least 90% attendance in mandatory classes and activities is required.

  • Absences of more than 10% may result in the year not being approved by the Loan Fund.

  • Planned absences must be requested in advance.

  • Illness or unforeseen absences must be reported to the school no later than 8:00 a.m. the same day .

  • Absence can be documented with a doctor's certificate or other confirmation.


🤝 Behavior and responsibility

  • Everyone should contribute to an environment characterized by respect, openness and safety .

  • Vandalism and damage to school property may result in liability for damages.

  • Loss of keys/key cards will be charged to the student.

  • Violation of the regulations may result in a verbal/written warning, expulsion or in serious cases – expulsion.

  • The school has a disciplinary council that handles cases in accordance with the Public Administration Act.


💰 Economy

  • Tuition fees must be paid according to the school's payment plan.

  • Failure to pay may result in loss of school place.

  • In the event of an interrupted school year (voluntary termination or expulsion), the school may require payment for part of the period.


🌐 Internet and media

  • Use of the school network must be in line with the school's guidelines.

  • Sharing images, audio or video of others requires consent.

  • The school can use photos and films from the school year in marketing - with caution and respect.


📨 Complaints and case management

  • Decisions in disciplinary cases are considered individual decisions under the Public Administration Act.

  • Students have the right to express their views, receive written reasons and appeal decisions.

  • Complaints must be submitted in writing to the school board within the specified deadline.
