Price, payment and loan

A year that lasts a lifetime

A year at Hallingdal Folkehøgskole is an investment in yourself. A year filled with learning, experiences and community.
Here, you get tuition, food, accommodation and trips included in the school fees.

Price for the school year 2026/2027

The total price varies slightly between lines, depending on content and travel.
The price covers:

Teaching and guidance
Room and board
Joint activities and joint trips
Access to equipment and facilities
Internet and use of washer/dryer
Most trips in Norway

One-way trips abroad are included in the line price, and the prices will be clearly described under each line.

Payment

Tuition fees are divided into monthly payments , which are normally invoiced in 10 installments throughout the school year.
The first payment is made at the start of school, and then monthly until May.

If you wish, you can also pay for an entire semester at a time .
More information and a payment plan will be sent out with the admission letter.

If you withdraw from the school after August 1, you must pay 6 weeks of tuition fees, 36 school days, which amounts to approximately NOK 30,000.

Loan Fund

All students at Hallingdal Folkehøgskole can apply for scholarships and loans from the Lånekassen .
The amount normally covers both tuition fees and personal expenses throughout the year.
Once you have received a school place, you will find all information and application forms at lanekassen.no .

The loan fund provides a loan for the school year 26/27 of NOK 151,690. 60 percent of this sum is a loan, 40 percent is a loan that will be converted into a scholarship when you are approved for your year at folk high school. To have a loan converted into a scholarship, you cannot have undocumented absences that exceed 10 percent.

Golf & Skiing – 157,000 kr
From mountains to fairways – a year of skiing, golf and traveling to both snow and sun.

Steep – Climbing – 152,000 kr
From indoor climbing to summit hikes and summit tours – year-round in steep terrain.

Motocross & Enduro – NOK 156,000
Engine, mastery and speed – both on the track, trail and road trip to Germany.

Balance – Yoga & Skiing – 152,000 kr
Yoga, mountains and reflection – with winter adventures and a cruise to Tenerife.

Switch – Park & Powder – 157,000 kr
Over 100 days on snow with park and powder – and a trip to Austria.

Outdoor activities – Svalbard – 150,000 NOK
A year filled with trips, mountains, paddling and summit trips – from the Hardangervidda plateau to the Alps.

Architecture & Nature – NOK 152,000
Creative expression in the mountain landscape – drawing, building and natural inspiration.

Animal Care & South Africa – 154,000 kr
A year of animals, nature and care – from the mountain village of Gol to the wildlife of South Africa.

💡 Prices include tuition, room and board, group trips, use of school facilities and most travel.
Small variations may occur between the lines depending on the line trip and equipment.

Payment

A year with us at Hallingdal Folkehøgskole costs between NOK 143,000 – 152,000,- depending on the course you have been accepted into.

This price includes food, accommodation, professional activities and travel. There are only some travel expenses that must be covered separately (for example, lunch on some trips).

If you require special diets or a single room, there will be an additional charge.

The loan fund.

For the 2025/2026 school year, the loan fund provides a loan of NOK 151,690 .

40 percent of the loan will be converted into a scholarship when you are approved for your year at folk high school.

Remember to submit your application to the loan fund yourself! The loan fund requests that applications for loans/grants be submitted online - and this application can be found at www.lanekassen.no .

The loan fund mainly applies to those who are Norwegian citizens or residents of Norway.

NB! Remember that it is your responsibility to apply for loans and grants.

Once you have applied to the loan fund, the school will automatically receive a notification. The school will approve your loan application on the day you show up at school. Payment from the loan fund will usually take place 1-2 weeks after you show up.
